Richard Unwell but Stable

Richard was expecting to be discharged from hospital today as he was much better post his pelvis issue but this afternoon (Fri 24 Nov)  he's had a bit of a setback, they suspect pneumonia and he's currently under supervision. I've been with him for a while, he's stable and speaking (a few) words, he seems alert but is extremely tired with the antibiotics etc. The prognosis is good, provided he doesn't take any downward turns.

As some will know, Richard has been in hospital for the past few days following a minor fall at home.  He's a minor fracture of the pelvis which he can walk with albeit with some discomfort.  He's also had an infection which has responded well to treatment. This morning he was talkative and keen to go home, but the current advice is for some more time in rehabilitation and with physiotherapy. If you're able to visit he enjoys company and being read to (fables and stories but not news).    If you can avoid showering him with biscuits, chocolate or crisps that would be helpful to his recovery and health.  On  the other hand he loves ripe pears! He's currently in Ward 3 of the Rehabilitation Unit in the Magenta Zone of East Surrey Hospital.  Visiting hours are all day.  He doesn't use a phone now so if you want to plan to see him best email me at tuscantonygmail.com Updates are all here from now on to save you the work of emailing or messaging me.

Richard

I was with Richard on Sunday reading him Danish fairy tales and holding his hand and he slipped away at 10pm,  26th November. He was comfortable and without pain. A life well lived. Richard Ambrose John Millard - 28th September 1933 - 26th November 2023
